Apple Cake:

2 cups flour
½-1 cup sugar (I use about 3/4 c)
1-½ sticks unsalted butter
6-8 large granny smiths
½-1-cup sugar-cinnamon

Process: in Cuisinart blend flour, sugar and butter. Put 2/3rds in a spring form pan (one in which the sides come off)
Save 1/3 for topping. Make sure you put crust up the sides.
Peel and slice apples thinly. (I use Cuisinart again, (instructions by calling 432-0257 the first time) Mix the apples with ½ -1 cup sugar mixed with cinnamon. Use your judgment on how much cinnamon you like. Put filling in crust (I pour in the apples some make a pinwheel it doesn’t matter)
Then add chunks of butter and reserved topping.
Bake 350 1-½ hours to 2 hours. I usually bake longer depending on the thickness of the apples, because I like it very well done. i sometimes make extra dough for the topping another recipe cut into 1/3
