Apple cider waffles with caramelized apples

It just felt like winter this morning and regular waffles just weren't going to cut it. We drink massive amounts of apple cider this time of year and I thought its flavor would be perfect for a waffle. My son requested oatmeal for breakfast so I thought I would make this batter partly from finely ground oatmeal. Topped with apples caramelized in some salted butter these waffles have everything I look for in the morning. I used pumpkin pie spice in mine because it is easy, but you could substitute equal parts cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
