This recipe comes from the James Beard (with Sam Aaron) cookbook, How to Eat Better for Less Money. Originally published in 1954, I purchased the 1970 reprint during my "lean" college years. It has been a constant resource since then. Many of my family's favorite recipes come from these pages. Plus "eating better for less money" is as relevant today as it was in 1954 or 1974.
